1. The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower (French: La tour Eiffel , [tuʁ ɛfɛl] ) is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris . It was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel , whose company designed and built the tower. Erected in 1889 as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair , it was initially criticised by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has become both a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. Nile river The Nile ( Arabic : النيل ‎, Eg.   en-Nīl , Std.   an-Nīl ; Coptic : ⲫⲓⲁⲣⲱ , P(h)iaro ; Ancient Egyptian :  Ḥ'pī and Iteru ) is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world. [ 2 ] It is 6,853 km (4,258 miles) long. The Nile is an "international" river as its water resources are shared by eleven countries, namely, Tanzania , Uganda , Rwanda , Burundi , Democratic Republic of the Congo , Kenya , Ethiopia , Eritrea , South Sudan , Sudan and Egypt .
